2021 FSCJ Fall Term Reading Circle
Faculty and staff are invited to participate in the 2021 Fall Term Reading Circle. The chosen book, “From Equity Talk to Equity Walk: Expanding Practitioner Knowledge for Racial Justice in Higher Education,” offers practical guidance in the design and application of campus change strategies for achieving equitable outcomes. The book presents advice on building an equity-minded campus culture, aligning strategic priorities and institutional missions to advance equity, understanding equity-minded data analysis, developing campus strategies for making excellence inclusive, and moving from a first-generation equity educator to an equity-minded practitioner.
The Reading Circle will meet via WebEx on November 3 and December 1 from 3-4 p.m. and will culminate with a visit from Author Tia Brown McNair on January 7, 2022.
Dr. Tia Brown McNair is the Vice President in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Student Success and Executive Director for the Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation (TRHT) Campus Centers at the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) in Washington, DC. She oversees both funded projects and AAC&U’s continuing programs on equity, inclusive excellence, high-impact practices, and student success
Lindsey Malcom-Piqueux leads the Office of Institutional Research at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and is a Senior Scholar Affiliate of the Center for Urban Education. Her scholarly research focuses on understanding the institutional conditions that advance racial and gender equity in STEM fields.
Estela Mara Bensimon is Dean's Professor in Educational Equity at the USC Rossier School of Education. She is founder and Director of the Center for Urban Education and is the creator of the Equity Scorecard.
