How to Cite a YouTube Video

Citation Help - How to Cite Videos using MLA Format

Dance on video:  DVD or VHS

Citations for complete film or video recordings usually begin with the title of the film:

Title.  Director, choreographer, relevant performers (if any).  Distributor, date. Format.

Example:

The Nutcracker. Dir. Peter Marins. Perf. Darci Kitsler and Damien Woetzel. New York City Ballet.

Warner Bros., 1993.  Film.

However, if you’re citing the contribution of a particular individual, like a choreographer, you can begin with that person’s name.  For example:

Balanchine, George. The Nutcracker. Dir. Peter Marins. Perf. Darci Kitsler and Damien Woetzel.

New York City Ballet. Warner Bros., 1993. Film.
