Defining Stonewall is a documentary created by FSCJ Digital Media student Michael Berkshire created in 2019 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall demonstrations in New York City. The documentary traces the rise of the LGBTQ movement in the wake of Stonewall up through today.
The Laramie Project
[DVD] "This film is based on transcripts of over 200 interviews with the people of Laramie, Wyoming."--Title screens. In October 1998, 21 year-old Matthew Shepard had been found savagely beaten, tied to a fence, and left to die. National media attention made his case a cause célèbre, and a month later, off Broadway writer-director Moisés Kaufman and Tectonic Theatre (his collaborating actors) arrived. They succeeded in interviewing a wide range of relevant persons, from those who knew Shepard or knew the accused to police, university, and hospital personnel and community members. Then they wrote a play.

Set in different decades in the same house, these stories of three lesbian couples each reflect a specific concern. In 1961, Abby and Edith, two retired schoolteachers, lead a quiet life. Abby has a stroke and dies, and her nephew and his wife come for the funeral and to sort and sell Abby's things, unaware that she and Edith were a lifelong couple. In 1972, four college-age lesbians share the house. They have problems with the campus feminism group, and Linda is drawn to Amy a very butch lesbian who wears men's clothing and drives a motorcycle. How can a feminist fall for a lesbian who acts like and dresses like a man? By 2000, long-term couple Fran and Kal want to have a child, and their quest leads from proposing sperm donation to a gay couple they know, to the horror of shopping for sperm on the Internet.

Chely Wright wish me away
Over a three-year period, filmmakers Bobbie Birleffi and Beverly Kopf followed Chely's struggle - some of which was recorded on private video diaries - and her unfolding plan to come out publicly. Using interviews with Chely, her family, key players in Nashville and her management team, the film goes deep into Chely's back story as an established country music star and then forward in verite scenes as she prepares to step into the media glare to reveal that she is gay. Finally, the film chronicles the aftermath of that decision in Nashville, her hometown and within the LGBT community.

Stonewall the making of a gay and lesbian community
Disc 1, Before Stonewall: Chronicles through interviews and historical footage the social, political and cultural history of homosexuality in America from the 1920s through 1969. Covers many of the milestones in the fight for gay acceptance and equal rights, culminating in the 1969 riots following the police raid on the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City's Greenwich Village.
Disc 2, After Stonewall: Traces the Gay Liberation Movement in America from the 1969 Stonwall riots through the 1990s capturing the hard work, tragic defeats and exciting victories experienced. Also explores how AIDS changed the direction of the movement.

Boys don't cry
A transgendered youth starts living as a man, and assumes the name Brandon Teena. He moves to a tiny Nebraska town and begins making new friends under his new identity. All goes well until his new friends discover his secret. Based on a true story about hope, fear, and the courage it takes to be yourself.
