Library and Learning Commons - Faculty Resources

This guide provides an overview of library services and resources available to FSCJ faculty.

What is an Embedded Librarian?

According to Erin McGaffrey and Elizabeth Leonard, in Virtually Embedded: The Librarian in an Online Environment, an Embedded Librarian is "someone who establishes a library presence in a virtual learning space." Specifically, at FSCJ, embedded librarians are enrolled in courses using the Canvas "Librarian" role, and appear on the student roster. They have additional permissions to provide academic support in ways tailored to the needs of the instructor. Most importantly, embedded librarians can attend classes and interact with students via video and Canva (or WebEx) chat, providing support for faculty.

To begin the process of embedding a librarian in your class, select one of the contact forms in the next section. The form has an option for you to request embedded librarian services.

After you receive a response to your request, you will be directed to follow the steps for embedding a librarian into your Canvas course(s). The directions for adding your designated embedded librarian are on this page following the links to the request forms.
