This annual event celebrates the freedom to read and spotlights censorship efforts in libraries and schools. For more than 40 years, it has united readers, librarians, teachers, and literary professionals in support of the freedom to seek and express ideas--even those considered unorthodox or unpopular. By showcasing books challenged nationwide, it draws attention to the harms of removing or restricting access to ideas in schools and libraries. This LibGuide also highlights efforts to ban, challenge, or restrict artwork, films, and speech.
