Shakespeare writes in a time of great political and cultural expansion. He is at the forefront of the English linguistic explosion and is credited with inventing one-fourth of the English language. His vocabulary includes over 20,000 words, many of which he invented.

Scholars agree that Shakespeare likely collaborated with Marlowe on a number of plays. The bard's sonnets actually tell a story, because they are probably autobiographical. The last 27 sonnets concern one woman.
