Description of Program

Data Science Technology is a new A.S. degree program offered at FSCJ.

  • Students will learn to use creative thinking, analytical skills, numerical analysis tools, visualization tools, and computer programming languages to collect, clean, and analyze data in order to detect trends and make predictions
  • Topics include big data, databases, cybersecurity, computer programming, networking, and visualization
  • The program emphasizes foundational skills akin to a lab technologist (hence the name)
  • Graduates can expect employment via internships or apprentice-level positions, or move on to 4-year degree and graduate programs

Students will be prepared through their coursework to take exams which provide the following certifications:

•  CompTIA Network+ (CNT2001C)
•  CompTIA Security+ (CTS1120C)
•  Oracle Java OCA SE8 (COP2800C)
•  SAS Base Programming (CTS2450C)
•  Microsoft Office Specialist / Excel (CGS2512)
•  Tableau Desktop Specialist (CAP2741C)
•  Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate: BI Reporting (CAP2741C)

 


Two technical certificates are available within this degree program:

•Data Science Technician I (6285) (T.C)
•Data Science Technician II (6287) (T.C.)
 
Students may pursue the A.S. degree and earn technical certificates while completing the requirements for the degree, or pursue one or more certificates to develop or upgrade their skills in a particular field.
