Online Tutoring

Schedule an Online Tutoring Appointment in Brainfuse

Note:  If you choose to book an online tutoring appointment through Tutor Match with one of FSCJ's tutors, you may receive same-day writing assistance. You may have unlimited monthly appointments if you choose the Tutor Match option.  If you choose to use the Writing Lab feature in Brainfuse, please note that there is a 24-hour turnaround before you will receive feedback on your paper.  Each use of the Writing Lab feature in Brainfuse is metered at 30-minutes and will be deducted from your 90-minute monthly allotment of hours that may be used to work with Brainfuse's tutors.

What to Expect During a Writing Tutoring Session

Writing tutoring appointments are scheduled in 30-minute increments. You may stretch your session time to a full hour by scheduling two back-to-back tutoring appointments in one calendar day. We cap tutoring sessions at one hour of tutoring per calendar day to ensure that our staff are available to assist as many students as possible.

  • Writing tutors are available to assist with academic essays for any course, and they can provide feedback on things such as cover letters, scholarship essays, and discussion board posts.
  • During a session, a tutor may provide feedback on the paper's focus, idea development, organization, and grammar and mechanics. Tutors do not provide copy editing services. They will guide students in refining and improving their own work.
  • Please bring a copy of the assignment directions and any rubrics that your instructor has provided so that the tutor will have contextual information for the writing task that you have been given.
  • If you are seeking writing tutoring because you would like to prepare for a standardized test or licensure exam, please consult practice test materials so that you will have specific examples of the kinds of problems with which you need help. Study materials for a number of these exams are available through our library: https://guides.fscj.edu/testprep
  • For online tutoring sessions, you may use the Snap and Send feature on Brainfuse's mobile app to facilitate content sharing during the session.
  • Students who receive notetaking or sign language interpretation services as a part of their accommodations for disabilities may bring these support staff members with them to their tutoring sessions. For online tutoring sessions, just reach out to the tutor with whom the session has been scheduled to alert them that you will be inviting another attendee so that they can provide you with a special access link for the session.
