FSCJ Library & Tutoring Services Annual Review 2022-2023

LIS1001

LIS 101: Introduction to College Research

LIS 1001 is a three-credit course that provides students with concepts and skills to conduct research according to the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL): Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education. The course was developed and is taught by FSCJ faculty librarians. Students apply critical thinking skills to identify the capabilities and constraints of information published through social media, websites, popular media, and academic media; describe the value of information in various contexts; design, refine, and execute a search strategy; formulate a research question; and engage in academic communication. One possible reason for lower enrollment is the availability of the Research Skills Mini-Course, which is a free, self-enrolling course allowing students to earn a digital badge at no tuition cost.
